FoundObject: Lamp09–23–2022
Inspired by a walk through our attic and a desire to transform a found object into a functional design, I repurposed a discarded gate into a unique, fully adjustable lamp. Every component of the gate was incorporated, including the wood and its adjustable mechanism. The lamp features a built-in pen and pencil holder, seamlessly blending form and function. To highlight the wood’s natural beauty, I applied a rich stain, enhancing its grain and character. The piece is completed with an Edison bulb featuring distinctive X-shaped filaments, adding a warm, vintage-inspired aesthetic.

(2022; Bamboo, Mild Steel, Wood Stain)

The original mechanism allows for seamless adjustability, preserving its functional integrity while giving it new purpose. The deep stain enriches the wood’s natural grain, adding warmth and depth. Paired with an Edison bulb featuring X-shaped filaments, the lamp exudes a vintage charm that balances form and function effortlessly. The built-in pen and pencil holder further enhances its practicality, making it more than just a light source—it’s a thoughtfully designed workspace.
